Beginnings
In the spring of the year of our lord, two thousand and ten, a group of people gathered in a house in mid-Beacon Hill to share hopes and dreams of what a church in the neighborhood might look like. The energy of that gathering carried over to two weeks later a portion of that initial group began meeting together to put a vision and some structure to those hopes and dreams. In early April of that year the bE.kON collective was born.
Prior to this beginning, some work had been going on behind the scenes. Jon Myers, our founder and current curator/pastor, was engaging in conversations with people around the Diocese and his partner in crime at the time, Jen Grabarczyk. Jon and Jen laid the ground work for many impulses and values that continue to be shared among the collective that now gathers. Before those seminal gatherings, Jen stepped away as she prepared to move to Claremont, CA to continue her work as an artist. Before she left, bE.kON commissioned her to paint three icons that would serve us in our beginning years. These icons now reside with bE.kON and are sources of deep reflection and prayer. Each of them, visible throughout this site, are reflective of ones we value in this collective: Francesco de Assisi, the Triune G-d, and Jesus of Nazareth. Jen marked our collective lives and we are forever grateful to her.
